As reported by the MSN news portal, there is a risk that even the software update offered to remedy the fraudulent diesel vehicles may produce questionable results. According to Hartmut B\u00e4umer, a German Green Party politician, the proper solution would be to upgrade the affected vehicles to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard at the manufacturer’s expense. The politician submitted this proposal to the Mayor of Berlin.<\/p>\n
B\u00e4umer himself was affected by the scandal through his vehicle purchase, and the local government authority required him to have the software update installed. However, as a result of the update, the vehicle’s pollutant emissions were reduced only marginally. At the same time, its CO\u2082 emissions actually increased by 7%.<\/p>\n
