Baden-Württemberg sues VW

Baden-Württemberg is likely to become the first German federal state to file a statement of claim against the VW Group. This is despite the fact that the company manufactures vehicles in that very state, in Neckarsulm. The state government intends to claim damages from the corporate group in court, primarily on the grounds of intentional damage contrary to public morals in connection with the manipulation of emissions. The amount of the claim has not yet been clarified, as investigations are currently being conducted by the police and several other authorities. Previously, the state offered a settlement to the corporate group, but the latter did not respond. In view of this, the state is now bringing legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, in Germany, nearly 100,000 people are already involved in some form of litigation against members of the VW Group or VW dealers.

VW is vigorously seeking to defend itself against paying damages precisely at the place of production, namely in Europe, whereas in the United States it had already settled various consumer claims some time ago under pressure from the authorities.
