Medical diagnostics, pricing, data analysis — the list could go on almost indefinitely. With the emergence of the data-driven economy (data economy), the role of artificial intelligence is also increasing rapidly. This technology plays a key role in the systematic processing and analysis of large volumes of data. The European Parliament has begun work on European regulation of artificial intelligence with the aim of making its use safe and trustworthy. The proposal classifies artificial intelligence systems into four risk categories according to defined requirements. Where a system is classified as high-risk, companies applying the technology would be required to establish comprehensive quality and risk management systems. The use of artificial intelligence will undoubtedly shape the economic development of the coming decades. For this reason, from the perspective of the competitiveness of European companies, it is essential to create rules that precisely define specific risks while also being legally secure and free from unnecessary bureaucracy. Further EU legislation in the field of digitalisation is expected under the “Europe fit for the Digital Age” programme, and we will keep our followers informed about these developments in future posts.
