Austria: The Iron Curtain Still Stands

On 23 October 1956, the Hungarian people showed that they stood for freedom against a police state and oppression.
For years, we have consistently drawn attention to the fact that Austria is trampling on the rights of our compatriots guaranteed by EU law by unlawfully maintaining border controls at the Hungarian–Austrian border for more than 10 years now — yes, ten years. Unfortunately, our initiatives have so far not received sufficient support from state bodies.
Today, the Austrian “state governed by the rule of law” has reached a new level: without providing reasons, it refused entry into its territory to supporters travelling to the Ferencváros–Salzburg match. This measure — like the border controls to date — constitutes a blatant violation of EU law.

👉 We recommend that all those affected take the necessary legal steps against the Austrian police. I am offering pro bono legal assistance to the first applicants.

In any event, I once again call on the representatives of Hungarian politics to take firm action against these unlawful border controls, which primarily affect our compatriots. If Hungarian politicians make use of the opportunities provided by EU law, we are ready to make our professional experience available to them.
