A Defendant v. State: ECHR Ruling on Excessive Length of Proceedings

We represented a Hungarian client before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in a case concerning excessively long domestic proceedings lasting more than seven years. The matter raised fundamental issues in relation to the right to a fair trial within a reasonable time under the European Convention on Human Rights. The intervention of the Strasbourg Court had a direct impact on the outcome of the underlying criminal proceedings, ultimately resulting in a suspended sentence instead of a custodial sentence.
