Baden-Württemberg wird voraussichtlich das erste Bundesland sein, das Klage gegen den VW-Konzern erhebt. Obwohl VW seine Fahrzeuge in diesem Bundesland (Neckarsulm) produziert, will die Landesregierung VW auf Schadensersatz verklagen. Der Vorwurf laut Landesregierung: vorsätzliche, verwerfliche Schädigung durch die Abgasmanipulation. Die Höhe der Forderung ist noch unklar, da die Anzahl der in das Bundesland ausgelieferten Fahrzeuge (mit dem Motortyp EA 189) noch ermittelt werden muss. Zuvor hatte die Landesregierung einen Vergleich angeboten, doch der Automobilhersteller hat auf dieses Angebot nicht reagiert. Daher wird die Landesregierung in Kürze Klage einreichen, um eine Frist nicht zu versäumen.
Unterdessen häufen sich die Klagen gegen VW. Im Gegensatz zur Situation in Europa, wo sich der Konzern nach wie vor gegen großzügige Entschädigungszahlungen wehrt, hat VW in den USA dem Druck der Behörden nachgegeben und den Verbrauchern weitreichende Schadensersatzansprüche zuerkannt.

Für Baden-Württemberg ist dies nicht die erste Klage gegen den VW-Konzern. Vor zwei Jahren hatte das Land eine Klage wegen der Verluste eingereicht, die der Pensionsfonds für Beamte des Landes aufgrund des Dieselskandals erlitten hatte.
