People fear dentists — dentists fear us: Successful resolution of a dental malpractice claim by way of settlement

Our foreign client engaged the services of a dental clinic in Hungary. Following multiple unsuccessful repeat procedures, the client sought full reimbursement of the treatment costs on the basis of professional negligence. The clinic unlawfully refused to compensate our client. Our client had travelled to Budapest on several occasions exclusively for the purpose of undergoing the dental procedures and, in addition to the treatment fees, incurred substantial travel and accommodation expenses. We entered into correspondence with the clinic’s legal representatives. In response to our formal letter of claim, the clinic indicated a willingness to explore settlement. In light of the anticipated duration and cost of litigation, our client elected to pursue an out-of-court resolution. We therefore negotiated and prepared a settlement agreement on terms favourable to our client, which was duly executed by the clinic and performed within the agreed payment deadline. As a result, our client achieved a substantial financial recovery, compensating the treatment costs and consequential travel expenses.
